Hey there,

I'm Michael Christopher Hicks, Your Guide to a Remote Work Life in Southeast Asia

As a UX Designer from America, I knew there had to be more to life than back-to-back office meetings, endless traffic jams and rent prices that snatched the soul out of my bank account. I took the leap, moved to Thailand, and never looked back.

Now, I use my UX skills – empathy, research, and storytelling, to design lives, not just interfaces. I've navigated the visas, taxes, culture shock, and logistics so you don't have to.

FAQ

I don't have a lot of savings, can I still do this?

Absolutely! Southeast Asia is famously affordable. A key part of our session will be building a financial model that works for your specific income level. Many people actually save more money living here than they did back home.

Can I bring my family with me?

Yes. Relocating with a family adds layers of complexity, but can also be a life-changing experience for your loved ones that they’ll never forget. We’ll discuss strategies for schooling, healthcare, community, and visa logistics.

Is it safe?

Southeast Asia is generally very safe. Compared to the United States, many Asian countries like Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand have very low violent crime rates. Still, I’ll help you to understand how to avoid scams and stay out of legal trouble.

"Michael introduced me to Thailand where the affordable cost of living, delicious food, and welcoming people made it easy for me to settle in. "

What are the internet speeds like?

There are some rural areas with less developed internet services, but the majority of medium and big cities like Bangkok have lightning fast speeds at cheap prices way better than anything I’ve ever experienced in America.

What if I get sick or have a medical emergency?

Private hospitals in major cities are often world-class, with English-speaking staff and a fraction of the cost of U.S. care. Many Westerners travel to Southeast Asia for expert medical care they can’t afford in their home country.

I'm introverted and anxious about meeting people; how do I build a community?

You are not alone. This is a huge concern for many who make this move. The digital nomad community is famously welcoming. I'll share strategies to help you find your tribe.

Can I reach out to you with questions after our session?

The 50-minute session is designed to be comprehensive and equip you with everything you need to move forward with confidence. For a small additional fee, I offer follow-up "check-in" sessions to help you navigate new questions as your plans become more concrete.
